There are many destinations around the world that you can go to for a great family holiday. Tenerife in the Spanish Canary Islands is an excellent choice to take the family to all year round. Sitting just off the African coast, this is only a few hours away by plane making it easily accessible. A bit about Tenerife
The Canary Islands have been under Spanish control since December 1494, when the king of Spain granted Alonso Fernández de Lugo permission to go and conquer Tenerife with a couple of thousand soldiers and a couple of hundred horses. It took the Spanish around 10 months to fully subdue the island and make the former king surrender. Tenerife has a unique landscape as it is volcanic formations which produced the islands and have left Tenerife with mountains and plains, lava tubes and black sand and pebble beaches. The country is very rugged and has been used extensively for the filming of movies over the years James Bond and Planet of the Apes alike, filmed in this truly wonderful landscape. There are also a lot of western films made here due to the desert like interior of the landscape.
Some of the attractions
Left over from the by-gone movie days, you can visit one of the old movie sets on the island where you will be able to walk down the street of a Wild West town and see the Cowboy and Indian show. Or why not take a trip to El Teide which is the third largest Volcano in the world when measured from its base. This also have the highest peak in Spain with an elevation of 3718 metres. There are various National Parks around the islands as well as protected World Heritage sites and also UNESCO sites to. There is a lot to see and take in if you travel round the island and take the time to explore a little bit.
Keeping cool
After looking at all of the scenery and nature you will want to cool off from the hot sun, especially if you are there in the middle of summer. You may wish to spend a day with the family relaxing on the beach or by the pool. Sunbathing and relaxing while the kids play. It is a good idea to plan a couple of days like this when going on holiday, especially if you are having an active holiday doing lots of activities and seeing lots of attractions. Something else which may e a good idea to help keep the kids entertained and cooled off at the same time is to visit one of the many water parks which are available on the island. You can spend the day by the water and relax while the kids are happy and you can sip your drink or eat your snack while they burn off all of that excess energy.
Nightlife
There are lots of family friendly bars and restaurants that you can visit in Tenerife as well as lots of discos for the younger adults as well. You will be able to find a range of different cuisines to treat your tasted buds to as there are many other nationalities who now call Tenerife home. This means you will be able to get your English breakfast, German sausage and whatever else it is that you want to eat, even some Spanish and local food from Tenerife! Try speaking a bit of the language and visiting restaurants and Places that the locals go to, which will show you another view of the islands, away from all of the tourist traps. You will be sure to find yourself a little bar or restaurant where you can relax in the warm nights, have a few drinks and some quality food, as well as spending some quality time with your family. Tenerife is an excellent holiday destination all year round and has something to offer all of the family.
