If you take a car out with a tank full of petrol for only a few days and return it with an empty tank, the usual policy is to charge you for a tank full of petrol. However, chances are the tank will have at least a little fuel left in it upon return, whereas you are likely to be charged the maximum price for a full tank of premium. Some companies give you the option of returning the vehicle with a full tank and getting the money you paid as a deposit for the fuel fully reimbursed. It makes sense for you to refill the tank reasonably cheaply and reasonably close to the car company before giving it back. That way, generally, you will avoid the surcharge. Check it out before you make the journey because not all companies have the same policies.

Many car rental companies have offices greeting you right inside the international airports, but some of their competitors have offices and depots located not far away. These locations are generally accessible by shuttle buses, which run quite frequently and do not take long. Such companies may offer better terms, conditions or cars in order to attract customers, and a ten-minute wait followed by a twenty-minute ride is not a major inconvenience for a good car rental deal. The better travel agencies will give you knowledgeable advice regarding where and how best to do all these things, quite apart from just booking your hotel. If you are looking at the possibility of a holiday in Spain, for instance, where there is a wide range of car rental options either read some independent testimonials or ask someone who knows about the best place or the best way to rent a car. Some testimonial websites are credible because they are not affiliated to any particular travel companies, and the better travel agents have people who have been there and done that, and can give sensible advice. With a comfortable and reliable car, you can put your family in it and decide where you want to go and stop where you want to stop for as long as you want. You can travel independently, rather than going with the crowd where the guide takes you.
