Fly to Four New Places
Four new airline destinations are now available from the new summer schedule – take a look at these holiday havens for some new ideas for your next trip and book yourself some bargain airline tickets!
Puerto Rico – Caribbean
You’ll find that Puerto Rico is ideal for a taste of America in the Caribbean. It has great scuba diving – perfect for swimming with dolphins, hiking and mountain biking, it has tropical forests filled with birds, snakes and marvellous insects, isolated islands and pristine, crystal white beaches. It’s fun, frothy and sun dappled – an ideal easy break. San Juan, the capital, has beautifully restored Spanish-era buildings. One of the highlights when visiting Puerto Rico is a visit to the island of Culebra off the east coast, with protected turtle breeding sites. British Airways will be flying to Puerto Rico in early April 2011 from Gatwick, via Antigua, with an expected journey time of about 10 hours.
Beja in Portugal
Beja is in the Alentejo region, know for its whitewashed villages – Redondo is said to be one of the prettiest villages, with traditional buildings and a family friendly atmosphere. There are also plenty of independant wineries – perfect for grape hunters, and ancient towns with plenty of local colour and history. Évora is one of the most picturesque, with its Roman ruins and Moorish buildings. Portugal has a real mix of influences, with African, Spanish and Arab tones and flavours to the food and music.
Buenos Aires in Argentina
Buenos Aires is known as one of the liveliest cities in South America. British Airways has previous flown to São Paulo, but direct flights will begin in April 2011, cutting the journey by three hours. Highlights of the city include the Pink Presidential Palace, the Belle Epoque Café Tortoni and the Recoleta Cemetery, the final resting place of Eva Perón, who came to represent ordinary Argentinian people, inspiring adoration.
If you really want to fall under the spell of Argentina, try to arrange for a few tango lessons – the real thing is fast paced, passionate, and addictive! It’s also a great way to tone up, so you’ll need to boost your energy levels when you finish classes. Agentinian beef is world class, so if you enjoy a good steak, try one out in a local parrilla (grill) restaurant.
British Airways flies direct to Buenos Aires from Heathrow. It’s still a longish flight, but the journey is now down to under 14 hours.
Vilinius in Lithuania
Vilnius is a marvellous Baroque city in Lithuania. The Old Town has Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches and tiny lanes, festooned with trailing flowers drippiong from balconies. There are towers, Castles, Cathedrals, and Royal Palaces dating from the 16th century – so its brimming with atmosphere but few crowds. Watching the sun set from the top of Gediminas Hill is a great way to complete your first day out sightseeing.
Ryanair begins flying from Stansted to Vilinius in May 2011 and the journey time is a very short 2hr 45min. Barely enough time to start the Crossword!
