Flight Route Expands To San Diego USA
A new return service from Heathrow Airport to San Diego, USA begins with flights starting in June. The estimated flight time will be in the region of 11 hours, a bit of a stretch, but it will be worth it, because San Diego has so much going for it! If you’ve been looking for the perfect family holiday that suits everyone’s idea of a break, consider San Diego – it’s got something to appeal to the whole family. Cheap flights are often available, so its worth doing your own research before hitting the high street holiday stores.
There are beautiful beaches for surfing, museums and theatres and lots of fun places to vist such as Sea World, Legoland and the San Diego Funfair – the whole family will love the action packed days and sunshine. Here are some ideas that might tempt you to try out this new holiday destination.
The San Diego Zoo
For uncomplicated family fun, take a trip to San Diego Zoo, renowed for its education and animal welfare programme. Coming up on the summer calendar are Sleep Over Events, where children and a preferred grown up, get to sleep in the Zoo overnight – the next one on the Calendar, in line with the new flight schedule, is the Fathers Day Event on Friday 17th June – 4.00pm – 9.00am. There are special late night tours, you can help with the animal feeding or even scrub down a Rhino – a real favourite is watching the Flamingoes go for a walk! Alternatively, the Zoo also runs botany and art classes, or take the Dawn Stroll and walk through the Zoo with a guide, while the animals are waking up. This one is usually a real favourite with children.
Cultural and Social Hub
Balboa Park is a landscaped area, which contains a wide variety of social and cultural resources. You can travel round the park on a miniture railroad to get an idea of the scale of the place. You won’t be able to do it all – so armed with a map, pick out a few favourites. For example, there is a Japanese Friendship Garden, The Space Centre, a Car Museum, Arts Centre, Spanish Village, and a 1910 Carousel Ride to name a few. There are hiking and bike trails to explore, and an old style Spanish Village, enabling visitors to explore how people used to work and live. This is one of the main cultural facilities in San Diego, and plays host to theatre and live music performances all through the year. The Senior Lounge is a walk-in centre for older people and you can play games or attend a lecture. The nearby golf and tennis facilities are also first rate.
Beaches
Everyone loves a good beach and the 70 miles of coastline have some excellent surfing opportunities. The aptly named Windandsea Beach is good for surfing, Coronado Beach is great for children, and Mission Beach is good for walking with miles of flat, clean sand to stroll on. Mission Beach also has some sports facilities, such as the Volley Ball court area and Belmont Park, known for its old fairground rides – thrill seekers will be happier with the newer, racier rides, but for old time charm, stick to the wooden rollercoasters. There are lots of Mexican eateries along the coast too – and food in the USA is still very reasonable, so you’ll be able to try out some of the fresh seafood dishes such as crab and clam chowder without wincing when the bill comes.
