The route from Glasgow to Inverness is littered with familiar tourist attractions, including the world famous Loch Ness. This legendary loch has an exhibition centre dedicated to the legend of the Loch Ness Monster (entry from £6.50 for adults and £4.50 for children) and, for a few days in June each year, plays host to the RockNess dance music festival.

Loch Lomond

The A82 takes you along the shores of the stunning Loch Lomond, the largest freshwater loch in the UK at over 24 miles long.  Loch Lomand has around 60 small islands within it, many of which are accessible by boat. The tiny island of Inchconnachan is popular as a tourist attraction, thanks largely to the small colony of wallabies that have made the island their home.

Ben Nevis

The snow-capped peaks of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain at 4,409ft, are visible along the roads that lead to Inverness. The town of Fort William, which lies on the shores of Loch Linnhe and at the foot of Ben Nevis is a popular stopover for visitors to the region.

Fort William provides an ideal base for winter sports enthusiasts. The Nevis Range ski centre allows enthusiasts and tourists alike to ski and mountain bike on the slopes of Aonach Mor. If you’d rather not take to the slopes and simply enjoy the views, the Mountain Discovery Centre offers the chance to take in the spectacular views of Ben Nevis and the surrounding lochs after taking a relaxing gondola ride 650m up the mountain.

The route from Fort William to Inverness takes you along the shores of the famous Loch Ness for around 65 miles, providing you with the chance to take in spectacular views as you drive alongside the home of the fabled Nessie.
