With Brits taking an average of 121 holidays in their lifetime, make some of them count by exploring some of Europe’s hottest cultural destinations.
Paris
It goes without saying that Paris is high on the list. And for good reason, too, since it’s simply packed with history, stunning architecture and the famous Parisian atmosphere. Athens

Amsterdam
If you’re searching for somewhere a little more modern and quirky, which still has plenty of culture to offer though, look no further than Amsterdam.
The museums of Anne Frank and Van Gogh, the Diamond museum–Amsterdam alone boasts over 50 museums including the Flourescent Art Museum! If you’ve worn out your walking shoes, you’ll be surprised by how much of the city you can see via bike. Flights to Amsterdam are cheap and cheerful, and the good news is that it’s only an hour away by plane.
Londonderry
For somewhere a little closer to home, consider Northern Ireland’s second largest city, Londonderry; City of Culture for 2013. An unlikely contender, yet definitely worth taking a risk for. With a £12.6 million boost to the city’s cultural plans, there’s plenty to get excited about.
The city is a must-visit for theatregoers and creative types alike, boasting the Millennium Forum among other things, one of Ireland’s largest theatres. Pottery and crafts play a big part too, so be sure to check out the Craft Village or the Tom Agnew Mill Pottery.
