It’s now so easy to book a holiday abroad and there are some great bargains out there to choose from when looking for your ideal holiday.  But even in these days of infinite choices, there are some places that remain firm favourites. Here are four of the most popular destinations for UK holidaymakers.
Spain
Spain is the number one choice for British holiday makers. It’s easy to get to, the sunshine is almost entirely guaranteed, and the Euro exchange rate has been favourable. You can find some fantastic bargains on long winter lets on the AndalucÃa coast from November to March. Remember to buy euros before you go, and settle into the Spanish lifestyle of late nights, great food and afternoon siestas. The most visited areas are Barcelona in the North and Andalucia in the South, particularly the Costa Brava. Many of the coastal resorts such as Torremolinos have made great efforts to change their image and they are now better able to accommodate families, and offer a range of a safe, family focussed things to do – and of course, there’s all that dancing in beautiful dresses, with castanettes and hand painted fans! The fans make great souvenirs and some of the hand painted ones are really works of art.
France
Voted by traveller footfall to be the second most popular holiday destination for UK residents is France. A huge country, with spectacular rural regions, sumptuous cities and a great coastline famed for it beautiful beaches. In the north you have Brittanny, where the campsites are more like hotel complexes! Fresh warm croissant and bread delivered every morning, eaten whilst sitting by the side of fast flowing stream, and then off to explore the local landscape – great for families! A British favourite is the Dordogne, known for its chateaux, great wines and lush countryside.
Irish Republic
The Republic of Ireland is known for excellent golf and beautiful coastlines.  Irish people are renowned for knowing how to enjoy themselves, so through the summer months there are lots of festivals, such as the Blaze Festival, which is a global music event – its runs from June to the end of July. There is Irelands National Music Festival too, for lovers of traditional folk music and that’s held in late August in various venues.
The Dublin Horse Show is also held in August, and it’s the key equestrian event in Ireland, with show jumping, dressage and hunt chases. September sees in the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival! Traditionally the fair was established to enable people to meet up and pair up – now it’s more of a big party event. The Galway Oyster and Guinness Festival in September is also a major event – street fairs, oysters in all their forms, cooking demonstrations. There’s dancing too – and the event rounds off the summer nicely.
United States of America
And finally, the fourth most popular destination for UK holiday makers is the America, and with so much on offer it’s no surprise. The days of two dollars to a pound may be over, but America still provides good value once you there. Food is cheaper and the servings are generous to the extreme and getting around is still cheap! If you’re feeling extravagant, there are weekend breaks in New York and Boston, or Las Vegas for the lights, incredible hotels and the nearby wonders of Death Valley, The Grand Canyon and The Hoover Dam. Virginia is visited in the autumn, for the changing tree colours. Florida offers family fun with the Space Park and Disneyworld, but there’s so much to see around the Florida Keys too, at a more sedate pace. From the frozen planes of Alaska to the surf culture of Hawaii, America has amazing scenery, and thousands of unusual places to visit. Where else you would find a Mustard Museum! There’s one is Wisconsin. America really cuts the mustard with the British!
