Egypt’s second largest city is Hurghada which lies on the coast of the Red Sea. Built for the most part during the early 20th Century, it has become a leading holiday destination especially for families.

The city here is divided into three distinct parts. There is the oldest part of the city called El Dahar, the most modern part called El Memsha where you can find the largest of the local bazaars, and Sekalla where most of the hotels, guest houses and resorts are located. Most of the hotels are on the main road that runs through the town, and offer a mixture of different styles and price ranges. There are traditional Egyptian guesthouses as well as Hotels all the way up to Luxury 5 star accommodation. Most hotels offer a mixture of local traditional Egyptian and western cuisine, and there is generally a good choice of well known and locally produced drinks available too.
Hurghada is a vibrant and exciting destination that is suitable for anyone of any age. With the Red Sea on one side, and the desert on the other, there is plenty here to do here from aquatic sports to visiting the local museum and aquarium in town. Out in the desert you can safari by jeep or camel and see the beauty of the sands. Cairo and Luxor are also both reasonably close, and each offers excellent excursion opportunities. Off the shore there are a number of islands which are popular with visitors including Shadwan, Umm Gammar, Shaab el-Erg and Shaab Abu Shiban as well as Gfitun where you can enjoy a local fish barbecue on the beach.
