For Island Life At Its Best

If you are planning a trip to Greece and want to experience something new, why not take a trip to the island of Skopelos in the western Aegean Sea? Villages

Skopelos Town is the capital and its on the southern side of the island. The towns situation is beautiful as it is set around a beautiful bay surrounded by pine trees. Things to do in Skopelos Town include going to the beach, visiting the local folklore museum, the local monasteries and walking around the town enjoying the shops.

Glosa is another beautiful village. One of the magnificent things about it is that it is built like an amphitheatre along a mountainside that goes down to the coast. Like Skopelos Town, it is also surrounded by pine trees. This would be a perfect location for anyone with an interest in photography. While you are at Glosa, you can also pay a visit to the local Museum of Cultural Heritage.

When you are visiting any Greek island, you’ll probably want to visit the beaches. Panormos beach is located about 12 kilometers west of Skopelos Town. Its sandy coast is perfect for sunbathing and its cool waters are great for swimming. Being on the west of the island, this beach also 0ffers a great view of the sunset.  Stafilos Beach is probably the most popular beach among locals, and is located about 5 kilometers southwest of Skopelos Town. Its has a picturesque backdrop with beautiful cliffs and the beach is also geared up for visitors. Here you can unwind, surrounded by beautiful scenery, and see what the locals are up to.

Sightseeing

There are many unique sights that you can enjoy while you are visiting Skopelos. Scattered around the island are many old monasteries that will give you an insight into traditional Greek life. There are also museums where you can learn about the history of the island and how it came to be part of Greece. A notable sight that you might want to visit while you are here is the Church of Agios Ioannis Kastri. This church is built at the very top of a huge rock and gives amazing views of the island.

The island of Skopelos has many attractions to offer – it’s very pretty, and the tourism industry is not so evident here. It’s unlikely you’ll experience any huge crowds when you are strolling around the villages or visiting the sights, so you’ll have chance to chill out, relax and take a leisurely look at the island.
