How to Avoid Holiday Dramas

Your hard earned holiday has arrived at last! You’re in the airport, waiting for your case;  it slowly appears on the carousel, clearly damaged and on checking,  items are missing. Not a great start to your trip, but it could be worse. A couple of days later, your beach bag is stolen and you need to see the doctor and have to be prescribed expensive medication. Your spending money has disappeared on replacing damaged and mssing items and prescription charges.  At least you can rely on your travel insurance to help out!

Be Prepared

Fortunately, most of us don’t experience problems of this type on a regular basis, but things can and do, go wrong. So, to protect yourself and your possessions when travelling, it’s advisable to have suitable insurance in place. Problems or health issues encountered in another country can be costly and the red tape can be confusing.

Depending on where you are, your travel insurance can help you to gain speedy access to appropriate medical treatment. In many countries, it’s relatively straightforward to see an emergency doctor, but if you are outside the EU,  medical costs can make an  unmanageable hole in your holiday budget. With appropriate travel insurance, you can reclaim a proportion (or all) of your medication costs – just make sure you keep the original paperwork relating to your case.

Be Safe

It’s not uncommon to take a variety of portable equipment with you on your trip, such as mobile phones or electronic libraries and thieves of course, love them!   Remember to mark your belongings with an invisible security marker before you leave home and ensure you have kept a note (somewhere separate and safe) of your belongings. If they are stolen from you, you can accurately report any missing items, which is essential when making a claim.

Types of Travel Insurance

Insurance can be found to cover almost any travel situation – single trip,  short trips, world tours and  gap years to name a few. If you are an older traveller or have a health condition, it’s good to know, that when it comes to purchasing your travel insurance, there are some excellent options available to you.  If you love tough sports such as snow boarding or sli-ing, your travel insurance could be a real life saver if you’ve been over enthusiastic on the slopes and need time out of work!

Before you leave home, take a few minutes to think about what is important to you as a traveller. Your personal belongings, safety and health will no doubt, be at the top of the list. For a tiny proportion of the cost of your trip, travel insurance is the best investment you can make, helping to ensure that you have a great time away – even if a few challenges do come your way!
