You Don’t Have To Save To Visit Poland

When asked for budget travel tips, many seasoned globetrotters recommend saving long-term travel in Europe for retirement – the logic being that places such as South America and the South-Pacific region are cheap enough to cover effectively on a young person’s budget, whereas the hotspots of Europe are places which will sap your savings account

While walking the Inca Trail or living it up in Thailand will always remain high up a traveller’s list of priorities, Europe should not be overlooked for monetary reasons.

When people claim that Europe is expensive for backpackers, they are almost always referring to the northernmost countries (including Iceland and Finland, which rely heavily on imports) and the capital cities such as Paris, London and Madrid. While such locations are, admittedly, on the pricey side, huge swathes of the continent come highly recommended to travellers who love culture but have a light wallet.

Poland is one such gem in which high-limit credit cards are certainly not required. Even in the main cities, it’s entirely possible to find accommodation and eat heartily for little over £10 a day. If you’re looking to paint the town red, there’s good news here too – the bars are as numerous as they are fun to hang out in, and if you pay anything over £1.50 for a pint you’re being robbed. We also highly recommend buying some wardrobe additions if you find yourself in Poznań, which has quite a few quirky clothes stores peppered throughout its many side streets.

Since the country is about as central as you can get, it generally takes no more than a few hours to fly there from most other European countries. This makes it particularly brilliant for a weekend break (especially considering you can catch a budget airline flight for a song).

At a quick glance and on only a couple of sites, we’ve just found a return flight to Krakow for this weekend for under £80.00 and a double room in a four-star hotel in the city centre for under £85.00 (that’s three nights with breakfast). To that, we say Na Zdrowie (Cheers) !
