The best diving locations in the world are defined by the quality of the depth levels that divers can reach, as well as by their different levels of difficulty. Some of the best diving locations are those that make the most of clear waters and visibility, which includes Sharm El Sheikh, or provides outstanding depth of vision, such as The Maldives.

Sharm el Sheikh
Located on the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, Sharm el Sheikh is a resort destination that is defined by its luxury and the quality of its diving and swimming. The sealife off the coast of the peninsula is also outstanding, and can be particularly enjoyed around the nature reserves of Ras Mohammed. The scuba diving in areas like N’ama Bay is also recommended for the depth levels that can be reached. After the recent spate of shark attacks in Sharm the resort is once again considered to be a safe diving spot.
Barracuda Point
Part of a Malay region that also includes Borneo, Barracuda Point by the Sipadan Islands provides world class dives that lure thousands of visitors every year. Best known for drift drives, the Sipadan Islands include coral structures, as well as friendly whitetip sharks, turtles and lobster. Visitors to Borneo can also enjoying surfing and snorkelling, while it should be noted that divers cannot actually stay on the Sipadan Islands during a trip.
Cod Hole
One of the key diving locations of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Cod Hole is one of the more accessible, but still fascinating points for diving. The incredible variety of sea life around the Great Barrier Reef, and the easy visibility allowed by diving, can allow visitors to witness reef sharks, Napoleon fish and Potato cods at close proximity.
The Maldives
Part of the Indian Ocean, and off the coast of Indie, The Maldives have long been one of the world’s best destinations for deep sea diving. The Maldives offers extensive opportunities to try out different depths, and also boasts coral reefs and sharks along its coasts. Divers can experience 30m depths, with the islands including specialised decompression chambers along their coasts. The best time of the year for a diving holiday is from January to August.
Elephant Head Rock
Part of the Similan Islands in Southern Thailand, Elephant Head Rock represents an unusually shaped underwater destination that is recommended for experienced divers. A difficult deep dive, the rock is host to a number of shark species, and offers excellent visibility. Visitors are recommended to try the dive from October to November each year. Cave diving is also available around the rock, although any divers that want to attempt the descent will need to show proper qualifications before doing so. It’s also worth watching out for barracudas, while being mindful of a sea bottom that reaches own to 70m, with strong currents always a risk.
