Are you bored of the National History Museum? Maybe the Science Museum doesn’t have the same effect anymore? Museum of Bad Art
The Museum of Bad Art (or MOBA) has been devoted to showcasing the worse art in the world since it opened in Boston in 1994. Whilst it isn’t the largest art museum by far, the owners have made the most of their theme and organised artwork into categories of badness. Categories include: poor traits (human portraits), blue people and other recent acquisitions. Is this museum making a mockery of art? Or is it the best way to display some of the world’s most unfortunate art? You’ll have to see it to believe it, plus entry is free of charge, so you’re sure to gain something for nothing.
Sausage Museum
Who would have thought that sausages would have their own museum? Well, this has to be one of the tastiest locations around and, for 11 euros per person, visitors to the Berlin-based site can learn all about the traditional German snacks that have been named Currywurst (aka curried sausages). After learning all about how they’re made and where they come from, visitors of the Deutsches Currywurst Museum can sample the tasty delight by leaving with a complementary sausage.
Sewers Museum
When most people come to Paris to visit the Eiffel tower and the Arc De Triomphe, others come to visit the Sewers Museum (or Musee des Egouts). Here, visitors can learn about the history of the sewage system, find out who built the existing sewer network and learn about how the sewage system has developed over time. Although called a museum, this is actually a tour through the sewers of Paris and, yes, they do smell! It’s a great chance to see a different (smellier) side to Paris and, after all, sewage can be quite educational too.
Torture Museum, Amsterdam
This is a great place to see all of the bizarre medieval torture instruments used around the world, including the Interrogation Chair and the Heretic’s Fork. Not only is this place totally fascinating, but the building itself is a building on one of the streets in Amsterdam, now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The museum cost 12 euros to enter and displays real life torture machines, with human wax works interacting with each exhibit. Door Museum
The first ever door museum is currently in the making and will be opening in the town of Iskilip in Turkey over the next 2-3 months. Showing over 250 years of Turkish door history, this self-guided tour will lead visitors through the town, where they can see doors as old as the Ottoman Empire to the present day. The project is currently in the early stages but it shouldn’t be too long before the big opening.
