Dar Zemora, Marrakech
This garden sanctuary is a peaceful place to stay near the action. In the green Palmeraie district, you’ll be away from the hustle and bustle of the medina and will see a different part of the city. Set amongst olive trees, palms and citrus bushes and with a divine outdoor pool, Dar Zemora is a laidback paradise.
Riad Villa Blanche, Agadir
This elegant white Moorish palace looks fit for a princess. A medium-sized hotel for Morocco, it has 28 bedrooms and lies just 300 meters away from Agadir’s temptingly sandy beaches and lapping waves. Each room is uniquely decorated with art works, local fabrics and antique furniture. There are two gorgeous pools and the spa is a winner with its delicious treatments and achingly pretty Moorish columns and mosaics.
Kasbah Tamadot, Atlas Mountains
Richard Branson’s luxury hideaway is the perfect place to soak up the magical atmosphere of this mountain range. Too many travellers mark the Atlas Mountains down as a day trip only, but stay here and you’ll really get a feel for this beautiful landscape. Filled with Moroccan furniture and details such as traditional mosaics, terracotta floors and the 10 rooms and 8 tented suites are truly a sight for sore eyes.
Dar Ahlam, Ouarzarzate
It’s almost worth heading to Ouarzarzate simply to stay here, although ‘the door to the desert’ has a lot more on offer than just this hotel. Four hours from Marrakech, it’s a world apart, surrounded by rural landscapes and traditional life. A lovely place for a romantic getaway for two, every suite in the boutique Dar Ahlam has a cosy open fireplace. The three villas each have a private pool. The food is exquisite and you’ll dine in a different place each day, from the gardens to the rooftop, to one of the kasbah’s interior rooms. There’s a heated swimming pool and a hammam, Jacuzzi and perfumerie.
Maison MK, Marrakech
Splash out on the modern stylings of Maison MK – an old riad with a funky twist. Located inside the medina, this hangout is in the pulsing heart of the city and is small but with six perfectly formed suites. There’s a little hammam on site as well as a gym and lovely spa. The rooftop terrace is a top spot for eating and drinking with views to the lively central square, and the superb five-course tasting menu based around French and Moroccan classics is a foodie’s dream come true.
