Don’t forget about travel insurance

Consider Your Travel Insurance Policy

Wherever you go, making sure you’ve got a comprehensive travel insurance policy along for the ride is essential. No-one can predict what might happen on your travel – whether it’s an unavoidable cancellation or overseas hospital visit – but holiday insurance gives you the peace of mind you need to get on an enjoy yourself.

Choosing the right policy

When it comes to choosing the right policy, there are many options available. Single trip travel insurance is usually a cheap and flexible option if you’re just taking the one trip, but if you’re going to be setting off again later in the year, you could save money with annual travel insurance. An annual policy lets you go away as many times as you like, without having to arrange a separate policy each time. It can also work out much cheaper too.

Making sure you’re fully covered

After you know what sort of policy you’re after, you need to make sure you find a policy that gives you the right cover. Making sure things like medical expenses and repatriation are covered is very important, but you must also ensure that baggage, cancellation, personal accident and legal expenses are covered too.

If you’re going to be doing any sports or activities whilst you’re away, you must make sure you check that you will be covered for them. If cover is not available by default, you may need to arrange additional cover. Also, don’t forget to check whether your medical conditions will be covered too.

Check the excess

It is also worth checking the excess on the policy too. The excess is the amount you’ll need to pay towards a claim. For example, if you need to claim back £100 and your policy has an excess of £60, you will only get the remaining £40 back. Many policies let you waive the excess, which means that the policy will cost a little bit more but you’ll be able to claim back the full amount.

Whilst it may be tempting to forego getting cover, the risks of travelling uninsured are high and can ruin an otherwise enjoyable trip. With travel insurance available from under £6, there’s no excuse not to get covered and you might just be glad you did!
