Guest article from Sinxia

Now that the recession is over, London hotels are uniquely placed to experience strong growth. When the economy slows, hotels can be the first to feel the effects as companies cut back on travel and consumers cut back on spending. In a recession, Hotels may be seen as an avoidable expense. There have been recent setbacks to the travel and hotel industry in the city, with airport workers striking, and flights to London totally grounded to a halt due to natural events.

However, London hotels benefit from their unique position in the capital city. A worldwide centre for business, industry, trade and commerce. A port and airport and international travel hub. A venue for major sporting events. A tourist destination, and sightseeing city to rival any in the world. A centre for media, fashion, arts and culture. Venue for the 2012 Olympics.

Special offers as London hotels tempt business back

All of these things drive business to hotels in London, along with the local business of weddings, banqueting, parties and special events. Meetings and conferences. Reveue from bar and restaurant operations and food and beverage. The future looks optimistic for the hotels in London that have positioned themselves to take advantage of all the opportunities the return to growth will offer. While there’s a short term effect of things like strikes, tube fires, and natural disaters, life goes on and the business starts to return.

Ritz Hotel London | Tea Glamour & Old World Luxury

ritz london tea

Final in the series of the four featured luxury hotels in London – the Ritz

This year an predicted inrease of transatlantic flights to London is expected to bring high spending US visitors to the capital in search of tradition, history and glamour.  Visitors not staying in the hotel can still have a taste of the high life by taking Tea at the Ritz

The Ritz Hotel London

If there’s one hotel that needs little introduction, it’s The Ritz. One of the most iconic hotel chains in the world, it is indelibly linked with our perception of old-world luxury and glamour.

Most  native Londoners have probably walked past it a thousand times while traipsing towards the bright lights of Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square. The entrance along the distinctive arcade outside is permanently manned by guards dressed in traditional Beefeater-style attire, adding to the sense of history.

Tea at the Ritz

Inside, whilst the previously mentioned Langham may claim to be the birthplace of afternoon tea, the Ritz has certainly played its part in continuing the tradition. Tea at the Ritz is a popular London activity for both tourists and locals alike – and it won’t break the bank either.

London Hotels

For most of us, top-of-the-range hotels are out of our price range, except perhaps for the most special of occasions. But one of the great things about luxury is that looking is free! Just as many of us enjoy window shopping outside prestigious boutiques, or admiring opulent mansions from behind 20ft gates, there’s also an element of voyeuristic pleasure to be gained from peering into the world of luxury hotels, without actually staying there.

We have already featured The Sanderson and Dorchester and now here is another in the series of the most decadent London hotels.

The Langham London

Opened in 1865, The Langham is one of London’s most historic hotels. Over the years it has played host to royalty, celebrities and foreign dignitaries, giving the Langham hotel a sheen of grand distinction that endures to this day

Of course, the £80 million reconstruction it underwent in 2008 didn’t do any harm either. Added to the aura of eminence is the Landau restaurant which offers top class dining at top class prices, an uber-chic cocktail bar boasting its own rum label routinely shipped over from Cuba, and a delightful tea room where the British tradition of afternoon tea is said to have originated in the mid-19th century.

The Dorchester Hotel London

Continuing the series Luxury London hotels >

Dorchester Hotel

Also combining old and new, The Dorchester’s 1930s Art Deco glamour blends harmoniously with a distinctive contemporary style. The hotel is ideally located for park lovers, being on the doorstep of arguably London’s finest: Hyde Park. Most rooms at the Dorchester offer stunning views over the vast green expanse and if you’re tempted to explore at ground level then you virtually couldn’t be any closer.

That is if you can drag yourself away from your lavish lodgings. The grandiose rooms boast traditional design features, while each bathroom is fitted with Italian marble, etched glass and chrome. Serious foodies have access to one of the most decorated restaurants in London, “Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester”, which boasts three prestigious Michelin stars.
