Madrid is the capital of Spain and it is located in the very heart of the country. It has a Continental Mediterranean climate as a result of its geographical location and altitude. This means that summers in Madrid are very hot and dry, and winters very cold and dry.

When to Visit Madrid

The best time to visit the city is during the spring or autumn when temperatures are pleasant for sightseeing. There are a number of low cost flights from the UK and Ireland to Madrid, such as easyJet and aerlingus.

San Isidro Festival

Madrid is famous for its annual San Isidro Festival which is held every May. This event commemorates the patron saint of Madrid and there are bullfights held every day during the festival. This is the perfect opportunity to find out more about Spanish culture. Not only can you see bullfights, but you can also try some of the most popular Spanish dishes which are served at street stalls.

Other popular tourist attractions in Madrid are the Spanish Royal Palace, the Prado Museum and Retiro Park. Sightsee during the day and then sample tapas in the evening before going to some of Madrid’s most famous bars and clubs.

Remember that nightlife starts late in Spain, so don’t venture to nightclubs before midnight.
