Barcelona is an amazing destination but Montserrat was the highlight of my trip to Spain last year and I can't imagine advising anyone visiting the region to miss it. The trip to Montserrat was like traveling back in time. As a serious history buff I found the museum to be endlessly fascinating. Driving from Barcelona and back was in of itself an enlightening experience, and quite easy.
